We are working with the Cornerstone Trust to construct a new home in the suburbs of Coimbatore. The lease at the current children’s home ends in 2017 and before then, we intend on building a permanent home for the children we support as well as other underprivileged children in the area.
On the 2500m² land that has been donated to the Trust, we aim to build a 280m² one-floor home. The design of the building will be constructed to allow for expandability in the future, accommodating any growth.
We aim to relieve underprivileged children of hardship by providing them with a safe home and the opportunity to concentrate on their education and future ambitions. Creating a home and family life for the children we support is at the forefront of our work.
Integrating children into the broader community by providing them with shelter and enrolling them in local schools will reduce the social divide so prominent in India’s society. We hope our efforts will create a safer community with fewer children on the streets struggling for survival.
Cornerstone Trust will be responsible for the running of the home. The number of the children residing there will be kept to a maximum of 50 until there is room for expansion. There will be a minimum of 8 volunteers caring for the children's needs.
The land has been donated to our partner project and the construction of the entire project has been budgeted at £80,000.
On completion of this project, we will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses and assess any improvements needed. We will continue to support the Cornerstone Trust to ensure the up-keep and maintenance of the home.
