Kamal Raj and his brother, Karan Raj, were only toddlers when their father passed away due to an accident. Their mother works in a village close to Coimbatore, but like many rural workers, her earnings are modest at the best of times. While there are minimum wage laws in place across India, they are poorly enforced, particularly in the countryside, and Kamal Raj’s mother makes barely 30 pence a day. This is an insufficient income to support both herself and her children, so in 2010 she sent her two sons to Cornerstone Children’s Home.
Kamal Raj is now fourteen years old. He enjoys playing cricket, and dreams of becoming a software engineer. While at the orphanage, both he and his brother have received care, attention and a healthy environment in which to learn and socialise with other children. This is all thanks to the generous volunteers who work at the orphanage, and the donations received at Big Hug Foundation.
