Background

The 'Jugnu Pre-School and Nutrition Programme' focuses on the education and well being of young, disadvantaged children living in the slums of Kolkata.

With private nurseries beyond the budget of parents and a lack of any nearby, state-run pre-school services, children are at risk of missing out on vital support and education at a key stage in their development.

Since 2009, 'Jugnu' has strived to provide these children the opportunity to gain a 'head start' in their education and give them a platform on which to thrive.

Type of Support

'Jugnu' currently supports 100 young slum children, aged between 2 and 6. Every afternoon, hugely beneficial pre-school activities are provided that help to develop cognitive, social and language skills. A nutritious meal is also provided and key topics, such as health and hygiene are discussed. These teachings are then passed onto parents at regular 'parent-teacher meetings' so that the good work can be continued at home.

The Big Hug Foundation and the 'Jugnu' programme is committed to helping change the lives of these vulnerable children, giving them the opportunity to reach their potential and realise their dreams.

With your help, the Big Hug Foundation can continue to support this essential programme and give these children the start in life they deserve.

Parnter Project::

The Big Hug Foundation is very proud to have formed a partnership with the 'Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy (IICP), based in Kolkata. The IICP is a non-governernment organisation that supports over 1500 children in Kolkata and the surrounding area.

The Big Hug Foundation supports two of the projects started by the IICP that are vital to children and their families; the Jugnu Pre-School and Nutrition Programme' (for children ages 2 – 6 years) and the 'Early Intervention Clinic (for infants aged 0-2 years).
